Analysing first 15 minutes of a similar film and screen shots

The similar film that I am analysing is "Zombie land". First there similar because of the type of film that it is same genre, with similar takes on zombie that we are going to use in our 2 minutes opening sequence. "Zombie Land" has the good distributor Columbia that is well known for comic horror movies

Going on to the opening titles we start off with a voice over of the main chartacter telling the audience what has happened. Whilst the over over is going a flag appears giving the audeince an idea where it may be set and with the american national anthem playing badly.

Whilst the camera goes through a burnt out Washington DC, when a zombie appears over the burnt out cars above the camera to show he has more power than the human, then chases a human at great speed and then is seen eating the human.

The next shot is of the world but not a normal shot where it is blue sky and green grass but it shows a world where everything is destroyed.

After telling the audince what has happen, the main character goes on to say how it happen and how he is still alive and how he has stayed alive but using his rules. First rules of how to say alive are told and that over weight people was the first to truned into zombies.

After, explaining what has happen to humanity, the name of the distributor Columbia appears and from then on different slow montions captions come on of zombies chasing or eating the humas that are still alive,

  Whilst the main members of the cast names are shown



















After the all the information about the film has been shown, the title of the film appears with a zombie chasing a human but with broken glass.










 After the opening titles have finished, it goes to an establishing shot to tell the aduience where the character is, and at this point there is still a voice over tell the audeince where he is as he has not spoken to any another character.

After establishing where the character is there is a medium close up of the character to see the emotion and fear that he is on his face as he is running away from zombies

Following the close up the main characters put his "rules" to action when 3 zombies attempt to turn him into a zombie. Through out the next next few minutes there are examples of his rules which are labeled.

After, killing the zombies the characters meets another human and speaks for the first time. Speaking to the other character the main character realised that they are fighting the same cause to stay alive and find out that they are heading in the same direction.

 To pass time, the voice over explains what his life was like before the zombie invasion began and his first encounter with a zombie. Over all i think some shots are similar to our film.

In relation to our film, there will be a lot of similarities between "Zombie Land" and our film "The Zombie Project" such as the chase sequence at the beginning where the zombies are chasing the humans which we are using similar shots.

Vince's costume

These are for vince's costume, he is quite a dark person so the colour reflects his personality and vibe. Also fake blood will be needed.

Vince's Facebook

 This is the Facebook profile for Vince Noir who is the director in our film. He has little friends.









His interests are dark and about zombies, and dark things such as the occult.

It shows how he has little social interests and is quite weird strange.

Tricky Camera Shots/Effects

Camera shots and effects can make certain scenes flow seamlessly and can create a sense of realism to actually make you feel that you are in the film.


It can also make the movie more dynamic and fun to watch for the audience and can show a characters expression from multiple angles in order to set a certain mood or feeling to the audience.


Zoom+Macro - Zoom shots leave a slight blur on the video and can be trickier to capture in the right way as things can look very cheesy and off, however, captured in the right way, it can create some really nice looking effects. Common macro shots are insects, alpine flowers, veins on leaves, textures in rocks and so forth.


Cutaway Shot - This shot can be used to make the scene more interesting, for example, if a shot is taking place in a busy street, then a cutaway shot will show an extra or a random person will be shown to establish the scene. The characters of the film will usually not be shown in this type of shot.


Noddy Shot - When two characters are talking, the noddy shot will show the other character listening intently as the viewer hears the talker off-screen. Alternating back and forth between characters in this way can create a more stronger sense of realism to the viewer and can suck them into the experience.


Certain transitional effects can also be used to make a film seem more dynamic and free flowing


Cut - The most common transition — an instant change from one shot to the next.


Dissolve/Crossfade - A gradual fade from one shot to the next.

Crossfades have a more relaxed feel than a cut and are useful if you want a meandering pace, contemplative mood, etc.

Wipe - There are many types of wipe, from straight lines to complex shapes. Wipes are a good way to show changing location. They can often have a coloured border to help distinguish the shots during the transition.

Digital Effects - Most editing applications offer a large selection of digital transitions with various effects.

These include: Colour replacement

                      Animated Effects
                      Pixelization 

                      Focus Drops

                      Lighting Effects

                      Etc...

                      


We would try to implement most of these shots into our film as they would help to involve the audience more into the film, we would also try to incorporate some transitions into our film to make it flow more seamlessly and create a sense of continuity.


Also, a lot of cuts would be used within our film as it is action packed and would  show what is happening  quite easily and would again create continuity.

Title Sequence

The title sequence is a very important part of a film it can get audiences hooked or make them lose interest.

The codes and conventions of a horror movie

The codes and conventions of horror films have changed from the 1890's to the 2000's. Some of the characteristics of a horror film is that, the feel that there is something wrong, also that the lighting is darker then usual so that the audience can not see what the "monster". It also strikes fear into the audience such as Nightmares, Our venerability, Alienation, Terror of death and fear of the unknown. The things that are in horror movies contributes to the fear of all of us and all of the things above contributes to your getting that fear. Even thought a horror is made to scare the audience the characters often forget about the danger that is out there. Often the say things happen in horror film for example

• Power is cut
• Someone investigates a noise
• Vehicle will not start

Research into Title Sequences

Title sequences can have a big impact on how people view a certain film. It can also help set the mood and establish the overall feel of the movie.

A good example of this would be the opening title sequence of "Edward Scissor-hands"

This is a very good introduction to the film as it sets the scene and the mood by using different techniques, such as using haunting music, cold colours and transitions between different scenes.

Another example of a good title sequence would be the first few minutes of "To Kill A Mockingbird" in which all the events that take place throughout the film, are all portrayed in the first few minutes of the introduction in different and creative ways. As well as also leading people into believing that the film is a horror film at first through the the way that certain aspects of the sequence are shown
